A milky-bright sky at the start; even so Venus could be quite quickly spotted with the naked eye. I find that the apodizer is not so useful with this type of sky - presumably scattering light across the image??
I am continuing investigations with combining/stacking different filters that I began about a decade ago. The Wratten 15 + 58 has proved effective and it seems adding the 80A even more so. Also the 47B + 38A seems particularly good for revealing detail/structure in the brighter regions near the limb. This latter with the apodizer attached gave a quite dim image but I found that putting a dark cloth over my head gave a rather fantastic view; and will investigate this further!
Weather allowing and if the forecast is right should get a session this p.m. We are having what we old-timers call an old-fashioned winter (snow) - and what the media are calling an extreme weather event: astonishing.......!!
