Oval BA: Possible MERGER with WO is INMINENT by Jon Legarreta Etxagibel
15 June 2010: Images by different observers show BA is interacting with and adjacent WO. Observers are encouraged to get images of the oval interaction for the next few days. The interaction may lead to many phenomena, oval fussion or circulation of the smaller WO around BA and/or partial destruction of the oval. Every Jupiter rotation will show different phases of the interaction for the next days. Observations in the visible range but also in the 890 nm methane absorption band and/or UV (both sensitive to the atmospheric higher layers) will be very useful to understand the interaction of large vortices on Jupiter at different atmospheric heights. Ephemeris of BA crossing through the central meridian are given in the IOPW webpage ( http://www.ehu.es/iopw/ )
Best wishes
Jon

Oval BA merging with white oval by John H.Rogers
GOTO Japanese
Oval BA is now interacting with the small anticyclonic white oval f. it. Any hi-res or methane-band images of this over the next few days could be very useful. As Chris Go pointed out, in Fabio Carvalho's image on June 17, the AWO is swinging round to the S side of oval BA. The AWO seems to be pushed in the Sp. direction by the STB Remnant, which has also pushed a dark grey blob up against oval BA. (Ganymede blocks the view of the STB Remnant in the June 17 image!)
The set of images also includes other interesting features which observers have pointed out:
The GRS is dark and strongly red.
The narrow residual SEB(N) appears greenish, a rare colour on Jupiter, in many images (including the recently released Hubble image).
In the NEB, small bright rifts are arising repeatedly alongside a dark barge.
In the NNTZ, the long-lived NN-LRS-1 is still red but the colour is not as strong or dark as last year.
Clear skies,
John
