Good seeing from my part of the UK (Selsey on the south coast) last night despite rather gusty conditions. A very entertaining night with Io's shadow ingress being followed by Io's transit ingress at virtually the same time as Ganymede went into eclipse.

夕方までは快晴でしたが、この20分後には曇ってしまいました。
この時も薄い雲越しで透明度が悪く、コントラストがない。

seeing conditions
unfortunately were a little bad that in the last other days....
Io's shadows is prominent and the BA is just almost @ the same
meridian of GRS... interesting is the dark material outgoing from the
interatin between GRS and oval BA (to right) and the little RS on the
NNtrZ has just risen.

Wish you best seeing to all ALPO JP friends.

We experienced some truly great seeing conditions here on the night of 23-24th
August,at times the image of Jupiter was rock steady in the eyepiece. During
the observation I was able to make three disk drawings. There was also some
interesting satellite phenomena- Io and it's shadow transited the disk while
Ganymede past into Jupiter's shadow. I timed these events (using the radio
controlled clock in the observatory) and the timing of the events was slightly
different from those predicted by WINJUPOS:

01h 06m: Io's Shadow on the extreme edge of Jupiter's Limb.
01h 41m: Io makes first contact with Jupiter
01h 46m: Io now on Jupiter's fol. limb,Ganymede very faint
01h 49m: Ganymede now invisible.

For my own curiosity,I measured the width of the Great Red Spot: The size is
given by S=E*1187,where E is the width of the spot in degrees. I measured the
GRS to be 13.9 degrees across (I did this using three transit times- (i) one for
when the proc. edge was on the disk,(ii) another when the centre was on the CM
and finally,(iii) one for when the fol. edge was on the CM,the timing (i) was
estimated since Jupiter was naturally obscured by a small cloud at the critical
time). Anyhow,13.9*1187= 16499.3 km. Not too bad for a 203mm Reflector in the
middle of the UK- though getting an accurate transit time was more of an issue
since the fol. end of the GRS seems (to me) to be less well defined.

Some images from earlier this week. Good seeing despite very blustery winds. The three red spots are nicely seen. I did some measurements of the GRS and BA: GRS is at L2=154.8 and 18,700km wide. Oval BA is at L2=156.8 and 8500km wide.
