Despite poor weather up in London for the Thames pageant today down here in Selsey we had some lovely sunny weather for a few hours around noon which enabled me to attempt imaging Venus.
Despite the solar elongation of just 3.9° i managed to locate and obtain images of Venus. A 900nm IR filter was used to help darken the extremely bright sky so close to the Sun (locating the planet took great patience and care!)
The view of Venus looks more like an annular eclipse photo than the view of it we are familiar with as the atmosphere of the planet glows with sunlight at this extreme lighting angle.
