Following from the BAA alert issued by Dr. Richard McKim, I went to the University of Leicester's main observatory to use the 20" Planewave DK (as usual with the kind assistance of Dr. Hugh Sasse) to examine the region. The weather wasn't terribly good- there were large amounts of cloud, and seeing was poor, so I should hate this to be the only confirmation! However there was a large gap between 2120UT -2135UT (and a number of others thereafter) and I was able to obtain a drawing (attached).
Syrtis Major was past the CM, but there did seem to be bright orange clouds in Libya-Isidis. Hesperia also looked bright. Hellas was not as bright as before and the rest of the features looked somewhat muted. Boreosyrtis could be made out but I was unable to see the Sinus Sabeus feature. Similarly the NPR was also rather vague.
At 2202UT we examined the planet with a W#58 (green) filter and the region on the prec. limb looked brighter. We had to stop by 2214UT as seeing become impossible.
