Attached is an observation of Saturn- I have to say I was quite surprised by the quality of seeing at times. When the drawing was made, the planet was only a dismal 15 degrees above my local horizon! Still we had some fine steady moments and the details of the planet flashed forth.
The main points of interest were as follows:
Globe:
*NEB again double, the NEB(s) perhaps being the more stronger of the too. I suspected some slightly darker condensations present in the NEB(s).
*NTropZ looks quite broad, and has a greenish hue, although the greenish tint is not quite as apparent as it was last time.
*NTB seen. The belts north of the NEB seem (at least, visually to me) to be somewhat ill defined. Indeed they give the impression fo being contrast effects between zones of different intensity- the NTropZ seems lighter than the NTZ.
*NPR conatins a lighter, tan region with the NPC at the centre. No hint of hexagonal structure suspected.
Rings:
*A-Ring bluish grey, outer 1/3 seemed to be much darker. I don't think this is Encke's division- indeed,I would not expect to be able to pick that up visually with this sized aperture. I think it is simple a contrast effect.
*B-Ring bright. The darker brownish components seen last time in the B-Ring close to the C-Ring are absent.
*C-Ring: Dark greyish ring, brighter near the centre.
*Cassini Division could be traced a fair way along the ansae and appeared very dark,
Bi-Colour aspect of the rings; Initially I suspected the proc. ansae to be bluish and the fol. ansae to be brown- however, when the seeing steadied, the effect vanished completely and the A-Ring returned to it's bluish grey colour. The effect on this occasion must therefore have been due to the variability of seeing.
