Please find attached four drawings of Venus made this morning. On the 24th September, Bill Leatherbarrow emailed me- he had observed the southern cusp of Venus looking somewhat thinner and sharper than the northern cusp, the image he sent shows the effect and he asked if I could confirm it. Alas the 24th was clouded out here, but I did go out this morning and observed Venus both in IL and with filters ( W25A, W47 and W11). I was able to confirm the effect, although it was not as pronounced as in Bill's image and drawings. The effect was most clear in IL. Initially seeing was ok but then it quickly deteriorated. The filters showed the effect to a smaller degree:
W25A: effect present but not as obvious. Some general disk shadings but no striking markings observed.
W47: Phase notably smaller. Effect present and interestingly, the southern cusp looked a little darker than the northern one.
W11: Effect still present, very little to be seen on the disk. Seeing now very poor.
Other notes:
Bright Limb Band: Visible and complete
Terminator: Geometrically regular
Interestingly I can normally see a number of darker streaks on the disk, today there w3as very little apart from the general hue of the disk
