Niliacus Lacus was recorded by Oxia Palus(W20,+10). Designs around

Image set from this morning. Although clear conditions, seeing was poor. The inverted V-shaped cloud over Eden looks like it has dissipated a bit. I note the rather large reddish area in the approximate region of Noachis. It is so distinct that I thought it may be a mark on my camera chip. However, checking yesterdays image and also comparing images taken over a few minutes,it is definitely rotating with the planet. I also note what looks like a very condensed bright spot at the NPC,particularly on the B image. Light cloud over Aeria, looking like it extends over Syrtis Major which is just on the evening terminator.

Please finds attached my first drawing of Mars of the new apparition. Alas seeing was rather poor,so there is not much in the way of details visible on the disk. In fact, the altitude means that I have a 40 minute window whereby Mars passes between two houses to make observations of the planet!
In the steadier moments (which were very few!) a number of details could be discerned:
- The most striking feature was Sinus Sabeus which streaked along the centre of the disk.
- Syrtis Major is on the prec. limb,Acidalium and Erythraeum were on the fol. limb.
- It seems that there were brilliant white clouds over Chyrse.
- Both the NPC and SPC were vague brighter regions at the bottom and top of the disk respectively.

Although the view was poor,it is nice to have the red planet back in our skies once more!
