here is a work on the nightside of Venus, started in 2009 and updated with images taken on February 18-19 2017.
Images taken with a SCT 235 mm telescope,CCD camera ST-7XME and IR 1 micron bandpass filter.
The nightside of the planet is visible due to the thermal radiation coming from the surface.
The fratures are real and shows terrains with different altitude, then different temperatures.
The comparison with the altimetric data taken by Magellan spacecraft show the perfect correspondence.
