Finally getting over the nasty bout of flu I had recently-
I ventured out this afternoon and made my first drawing of Venus in the new Eastern Elongation.
I would only recommend experienced observers try this as the planet is still very close to the sun,
as a result the phase is 98% and the disk diameter small at 10.0''.
Although seeing was rather poor, a number of things were observed:
Illuminated Disk: This is probably the fullest phase I've ever observed on Venus.
Seeing conditions were poor but it did seem as though there were a number of dusky cloud bands streaking across the planet.
I also had the impression of two bright spots- the one furthest south seemed to be brighter.
Bright Limb Band: Hard to differentiate from the rest of the disk.
Terminator: Geometrically regular.
Cusp Caps: Both present but the southern cusp seemed to be larger and brighter.
Cusp Collars: Hard to make out.
