Comment by Makoto Adachi
 Stanislas Maksymowicz

Most notable of today's observations is Mike Hood's image. It records the current state of SPC in great detail. It is interesting
to see Mitchell Mountain shining alone. The inside of the SPC is also wonderful. The area around the SPC is whitish, and it is
a very good indication of how dust has been blown off. The area around Nogys (335W ~ 10W,-25 ~ -30) to Argyre (30W,-50) that is
bright in a wide range is a dust coating that was created during the process of shrinking the SPC. Gary Walker also recorded
the same thing, but shows well the difference in brightness outside the SPC. The image also shows a thick dust storm near Argyre.
This would be another dust storm. Argyre is hard to see in the eastern half. Judging from the shape,it seems that it is trying to
spread in the northwest direction. It looks like a developed version of the Edge Dust Storm seen on August 25th. Even the G image is
recorded brightly. I would like to pay attention to future changes.
Damian Peach,Paul G. Abel recorded Hellas as whitening, while Efrain Morales Rivera recorded Hellas as whitening in
the blue image. Giovanni Calapai's blue image records the appearance of clouds in the atmosphere.
Stanislas Maksymowicz commented on the terminator bulges that have been observed for some time. We recommend that
you check the image of the observer in the comment to confirm. Stanislas Maksymowicz has been attached with
a record of the 1909 Pic-du-Midi Observatory. It says that this bulge has been recorded many times in the past. This phenomenon was
discovered by Father Secchi in 1858 and has been observed many times by Antonazi. It was confirmed by polarization measurement
of the lot in 1924. (Refer to materials)

Very poor transparency due to Saharan dust. Syrtis Major is central. Novus Mons is still just about there....

Please find attached a observation of Mars I made on the morning of the 27th August.
Although there were some passing clouds, the seeing was rather good and my 12" Newtonian provided some stunning views of the surface:
- Syrtis Major can be seen on the morning side. The Mare Tyrrhenum was quite dark.
- Ansonia fairly well defined. Hellas fairly distinct but not overly bright- for the first time details in Hellas seen very distinctly (albeit rather faint). The Mare Hadriacum didn't seem particularly dark.
- Nare Cimmerium can be seen near the evening side of the limb and I was able to see Sinus Gomer.
- To the south,Eridania and Thyle II were fairly well define, the south polar cap now fairly small.
- There appeared to be a bluish haze present along the northern limb, and bright clouds present on the morning limb.
Cloud cover became complete by 0056UT.

SOLIS LACUS

Here is a report of mars performed last 27th with a 150mm refractor under difficult sky transparency and relative stable images.
Sketches were performed with colored filters.
The main thing to note is the good transparency of the martian atmosphere, the present face accessible.
Contrasts exhibited a high level from the blue to the deep yellow colors, terminator and limb as well too.
This is quite different than the figure observed one month ago where the atmosphere was misty dusty.
This involved more perceptibility of features through the blue filter than through the yellow and yellow-green filters.
Unfortunately I couldn't use the violet filter as the sky transparency was only 2/6 due to high altitude cirrus clouds.
Anyway the present report is sent for your attention.
I have lot of reports performed on july and august performed at south france, they will be submitted later when free time will occur.
Thanks a lot for your consideration.
Enclose here the 27th report.

Regarding the "protusion" captured at the termination near the north pole on 23rd and 24th august,
I would say all the japanese observers collected it.
On 23rd,MM Ishibashi,Inoue,Hatanaka,Masayasu,Kumamori,Yunoki,Yamasaki,on 24th,MM Inoue,Kuroda,Ishibashi,Nishioka and M Konnai.
Congratulations to them, hope I donot forget somebody.
M Konnai suggested for more investigations using color filters. This way can help for the definition of the kind of cloud in presence, indeed.
More that, images as they are can help, for in first, evaluate the heigth of the cloud above ground.
It appeared as a veil floating above de ground and with the perspective given at the terminator and looking like a protusion.
M Dolfuss did such evaluation on the 60ies when looking such veil at the terminator using the 60cm refractor at the pdm.
He measured these heights ranging from 30- 70km.
This can be attributed to be dust clouds but at these height this cloud majorily looks distinct, not an hazze,
sothat a coagulation of the material in cause is needed.
These clouds are more probably mist with a ratio of white haze and dust not being defined physically, but a mix of the two.
Mr Dolfuss found the brightness high in yellow color but not only.
This should be bright in all channels more or less depending of the misty ratio.
The channel of investigation should be,the light red,the yellow, the yellow-green,the green,
light blue, deep blue and violet, band pass filters for imaging, wratten for visual.
The band pass filters needs to be known, otherwise we can say what we want. The classic RGB,a good start,is not enough.
Finally also,it's not a plume,an aurorae,too big,from my opinion.
Enclose here an extract from a publication giving an observation of Antoniadi at the meudon refractor on 1924,
it dates but seems still actual and representative.
I am sorry issued only in french.

PS: your comments are welcome and well received.
