Mars Map for 2020.9.9 - 2020.11.10 by P.Abel
Attached is a map of Mars I compiled using WINJUPOS based on my observations of Mars made between 2020-09-09 to 2020-11-10 using my 305mm Newtonian Reflector.
The excellent Mars blog by Richard McKim on the BAA Mars Section website indicates that a dust storm has started in/near the Chryse region.
Since dust storms can change the appearance of the albedo features,
I thought it would be a good idea to produce a summary map of how the planet appeared (to me) over the last few months when dust storm activity was very low.
South is uppermost in the map while the greys/white band to the far north is the northern polar hood which has been rather bright and extensive during the last few months.
The names of the regions on the map are taken from the chart by Shiro Ebisawa which is available on the BAA Mars Section website.
