An interesting view of Venus this evening! The main thing which caught my attention seemed to be a bright southern cusp extension.
It is entirely possible the this was an optical illusion caused by a large brilliant southern cusp cap but it was also present in all of the filters including the W47 which normally reduces such effects due to its low transmission.
Other points include:
- Bright limb band: visible and complete
- Terminator: Geometrically regular, but with the large southern cusp cap appearing to eat into the nightside.
- Cusp caps: Southern cusp cap large and brilliant, norther cusp cap present, bright but nowhere near as large.
- It will be interesting to see if anyone can confirm the appearance of the souther cusp cap.
