Venus in almost perfect (theorical) dichotomy shows itself like an appreciable crescent yet, likely because of Schroeter effect.
[Vincenzo della Vecchia : [Aversa,Italy]
The seeing conditions were rather good and there were some interesting features on the disk.
Of particular interest was the southern cusp cap which appeared to be somewhat dull as if there were cloud markings present-
this was the view in IL and W15. In W27 there appeared to be a dark marking along the terminator running up to the southern cusp.
The best view strangely enough was with the W21 orange filter which shows the feature starting on the terminator then rising up into the southern polar region.
Also-
- Bright Limb Band: Visible and Complete
- Terminator: Geometrically Regular
- Cusp Caps: Both present but the northern cusp cap seemed to be larger and brighter. Southern cusp cap smaller and not as brilliant.
- Cusp Collars: Hard to be sure about the southern cusp collar due to the cloud markings there but it was probably present. Northern cusp collar seen.
- The planet is at theoretical dichotomy today but visually it was clear the phase was less than 50%. In IL,W15 and W21 the phase was about 48%,in the W47 it was somewhat less at 46%.
