True to the weather forecast last week we had a good clear night (and with very good conditions) ¬
even if they had backtracked on that forecast the preceding 12-hrs........time and again this happens - what is wrong with them.....??!!
The sketch,c.1 hour before opposition, shows the Seeliger Effect with the Rings.
As with other apparitions when the extreme contrast with the Globe dullness often gave me the impression
that there is an inverse Seeliger going on in Saturnfs atmosphere....??
Such is how the eye-brain reacts to relative contrasts; and to render
that I cannot show the brightness any higher than the whiteness of an already very white paper.
The only recourse is to dullen the Globe; but the that seems offset somewhat with the tinting procedure.
Interesting how that bluish South Hemisphere seems to have taken on a more bronze cast!

about 13h after opposition. No significant jetstream to contend with,
but seeing was disappointingly soft, particularly at shorter wavelengths.

Imaged Saturn August 2nd at opposition in good seeing. The previous night the seeing had been very good over a three hour session but the 2TB Seagate external drive that I use specifically for capture, down in my observatory, lost power during the initial processing phase and is no longer recognised by any of my computers. I think, maybe, this is karma that August 2nd has turned out quite good.
Have good R,G & B data and very good 685nm IR data, the seeing just kept getting better through the session. The two long lived coupled bright spots just inside the NPR are well resolved at approx Lat+64.2 L3 274 and Lat+63 L3 288.2. There is considerable low contrast activity within the EZ which is well resolved in 685nm IR data, these plumes and spots are also well seen in the polar maps. I measure the most prominent of these spots to be at approx Lat+0.6 L1 328.1,Lat+9.2 L1 339.5 and Lat+6.6 L1 354 these three EZ spots are well seen in the 685nm IR animation.
