ダメもとで鏡筒を火星に向けました。小さいですがそれなりに表面の様子がわかりました。

Mars at 5" imaged in average seeing conditions, showing the longitudes of Olympus Mons and Mare Sirenum. A brightening on preceding limb is visibile.

Although Mars is now down to an apparent diameter of just over 5 arc secs,I was pleasantly surprised at the detail resolved, despite the low altitude of ~30 degrees. Clearly the seeing was better than average for my location.
Sinus Sabeaus and Sinus Meridiani are well resolved near the central meridian and Schiaparelli crater between them is quite bright. Is the lighter area to their south in Noachis Terra symptomatic of some dust storm activity? Syrtis Major is rotating out of view on the p limb and the bright Hellas basin can be seen to its south.
Acidalia Planitia to the north and near the terminator on the f side, shows a brighter area which may also be indicative of dust activity as I would have expected this albedo area to be darker. However, the resolution is not good enough to be definitive.
