These are my first images of the current evening apparition of Venus. Given its northerly declination this is an unfavourable apparition for us in the Southern Hemisphere. That and the small elongation means that these images were acquired at an altitude of only 15 - 20 degrees. I went to some lengths to cool the OTA with a fan blowing over a wet towel wrapped around the rear of the OTA. Given our recent warm summer temperatures, this is a necessity to have any chance of avoiding thermals coming off the mirror and destroying the images.
The first image is a UV image captured on 2023-03-07 and hints at a chevron pattern.
