I'd like to share an interesting Uranus image, captured over two evenings of good seeing (Feb 8 and 9 2026) with Phil Miles 508mm F/4 newtonian here in Rubyvale. We used a Baader/Zeiss 2x barlow and a 700nm longpass filter. The camera was a QHY5III585M. Each evening we captured 7 x 10m videos @ 50fps for a total of 140m of data. The best 80% of both nights was resampled 2x, stacked in AS!4 and combined. The stacks were all stored and processed in 32 bit format for maximum precision (i.e. 32 bit FIT format).
I applied a strong nonlinear asinh stretch to enhance the faint details in the resulting stack and then unsharp mask and levels in the Gimp. No wavelets (Registax or similar) were used.
Because two nights of data was combined you can see duplicate images of the moons Ariel and Miranda, which are all very trailed due to the timelapse on each night. Also clearly visible is a faint ring-like feature around Uranus. I've included a link to an animation showing our image overlayed with a template from pds-rings that show where the moons are on these two nights, as well as the ring and planet. It seems very suggestive that the feature we have captured is the ring, however I'll leave that for others to analyse or comment on.
One thing to note on the template animation is that it shows all the rings (a through e) however only the outermost e ring could be visible, the others are much fainter. Please bear that in mind when watching the animation.
