Jupiter's Observations on May 17, 1997

Makoto Adachi, Hideto Asada and Yuichi Iga

We observed the a long-lived white spot of STrZ and Red Spot(RS) on May 17, 1997. We report that the collision has just began between this white spot and RS. The white spot is located in left-bottom of RS Bay.

I observed three white spots in north of RS. I think that a long-lived white spot is the most westward, and it is located at the preceeding of RS. Another two white spots that are located at the bottom of RS may be hollow of RS, but they are one long white section in bad condition.

NEBs is not clear and is shaded backward to Central Meridian(CM). NEBs is changed to the center of latitude of NEB, and the whole of NEB becomes blurred. NEBn is like the thin string, and a notch is observed in CM of NEBn.

I can not see the STrZ white spot distinctly, but i think that it is located at left side of RS. The left-bottom of RS is bright, and its region is in a body of a white spot and the hollow of RS. RS is slightly red.

A notch of NEBn is located at 28 degree(system II), and another notch is located at about 20 degree ahead.
NTB is dark up to Central Meridian, and NTBn is more dark sharply,
