Jupiter's Observations on May 22, 1997

Hideto Asada and Yuichi Iga

I observed the conjunction of STrZ White Spot with Red Spot(RS) on May 22, 1997.

It seems that a long-lived white spot in the STrZ is located in the RS Bay. I think that the white spot may be located at left-bottom of RS.
This white spot is drawn to the north of RS by the anticyclonic circulation of RS. It is located at the same position on May 17, but the white region that is preceeded to this white spot is located at more eastward since May 17.

  • The white spot in STrZ is located at the left-bottom of RS, but it was not as bright as previous observations.
  • The white region that is preceeded to this white spot is elongated from north of RS to more eastward position since May 17.
  • RS is slightly red, and has a more red core in half of south. RS is located at 58.1 degree(system II).
  • Two condensations of SEBs is located at the following to RS. SEBZ is bright.
  • It seems that STB is faint at the westward of RS, and is dark at the eastward of RS.
  • I observed the small white spot of SSTZ in north of RS.
  • I observed the white section that is 20 degree length of longitude in NTrZ.
  • NTB is dark up to 20 degree(system II), and is moved to NNTB in the backward.
