The mosaic covers the area from -70 to 50 degrees latitude and 260 to 360 degrees longitude.
The images were acquired on 7 July 1980 on orbit 1483 during late northern summer on Mars.
The bright area at the bottom of the image is Hellas Planitia, a large deep basin about 2000 km in diameter.
The bright white coloring is due to carbon dioxide frost in the bottom of the basin, parts of which
are about 8 km lower than the mean planetary surface. The large bright region at the top is Arabia.
Thin white clouds can be seen over the northern (upper) portions of the image.
