INFORMATION FOR MARS OBSERVATION, MAY 22nd, 2001.

12" (30.5cm) Meade SCT.
Magnifications: 406X.
Filters: W#25/W#80A/Unfiltered.

Seeing fair-variable (4-7) with stable periods occuring. Seeing good (5-8) at ~40 degs.
Tranparency very good (4.5mag) scattered high cirrus.
Light wind, variable direction. Light dew.

Comments: Periods of stable seeing occuring this morning at times allowed a considerable amount to be seen. The finest views were through the W#25 filter.

Mare Erythraeum appeared dark with varying albedo across the region. The darkest areas were Aurorae Sinus, Protei Regio. Margaritifer Sinus/Oxia Palus also appeared dark. Eos/Pyrrhae Regio appeared lighter. Juventae Fons appeared dark, as did its neighbouring small projections. Sinus Meridiani was well observed early in the session and also appeared dark. Agathodaemon/Tithonius Lacus appeared prominent "Y" shape, giving the prominent Solis Lacus its classic "eye of Mars" appeareance.
Ophir/Candor appeared noticably bright in W#25, but not so much in the W#80A. Mare Acidalium appeared well defined and dark. Nilokeras appeared fainter, but Idaeus Fons/Achillis Fons appeared dark.

In the W#80A filter, Chryse appeared cloudless, but a brilliant morning limb haze (MLH) was noted extending from the brilliant SPH, northward across Tharsis, Tempe, to the NPC. Also faint clouds noted on the evening limb over Moab/Eden. These were also noted unfiltered, but not as prominently.

シーイングは 4-7あたりを繰り返している。
高度40゜では 5-8である。
細微等級　4.5 分散した高い絹雲。

火星の高度 :12.0 - 10.8゜
時々好シーイングが現れ、詳細が見える。
W#25 フィルターでさらに良く見えた。
Erythraeum は、火星面を横断し、微妙に明るさが変化して、暗くみえた。
最も暗い場所はオーロラ、 Protei Regio であった。
同じく マーガレット湾　Oxia Palus は、暗くみえた。
Eos/Pyrrhae は、更に薄いように思われた。
その近くの小さい模様と同様に、 Juventae Fons は、暗いように思われた。
子午線湾は、今回初めて見たが、更に暗いように思われた。
Solis Lacus は昔から変わらず、火星の目のように見え、Agathodaemon/Tithoniusは「 Y 」形のように思われた。オフィルは、W#25 フィルターで明るく思われた 。
( W#80A ほどではなかった。 ) 。 Acidalium は、いつものように暗くみえる。
Nilokeras は、更にかすかであった。しかし、 Idaeus Fons/Achillis Fons は、暗く見えた。
W#80A フィルタにおいて、 クリュセは、晴れわたっているように思われた。
しかし、光り輝く朝霧 ( MLH ) 、光り輝く SPH 、 Tharsis を北へ横断し、NPC へのテンペから伸びているらしかった。同じく エデン　上の夜側で注目に値されたかすかな雲。これらは、良く見たが、はっきりしなかった。
