June 11th, 2003
The neighborhood of Mare Cimmerium(220W,-20) can be well
seen.Hesperia(240W,-20) becomes quite dark. Hellas(300W,-50) is covered
with fog and becomes white a little. David M.Moore is recording cloud on
the mountain of Tharsis(100W,+5) clearly like previous day. The image of
Sinus Margaritifer(20W,-10) was sent from Cristin Fattinnonzi in
Italy.Around here, it seems that there is not a specially big change.
In the image of D. Parker, it understands water ice cloud well.

All:
The Red image draws my attention to a 3-D effect on the late afternoon/evening side of Mars.
It almost looks like shadows or contrasts being created by clouds and the volcanoes?
They are visible in the color image as well, but not to as great an extent.
W-clouds again prominent as well as a limb arc.

Cristian Fattinnanzi ( 250mm Newtonian Philips Vesta Pro)

Dear Mars observers
On June 11 I imaged Mars with good conditions
from 04:16 to 04:34 UT.
I used a webcam (QuickCam Pro 4000) with a IR
cut filter to get RGB images and a conventional
CCD camera (Mx516) with a red Wratten 25 filter
to get near-infrared/red images.

Carlos E. Hernandez (Drawing:200mm F/8.7 Klevtzov-Cassegrain)
I made an observation of Mars this morning. I noted a good mount of
detail over the Solis Lacus region as well as interesting cloud
phenomena. I welcome any comments on my observation.

Notes:
The South Polar Cap (SPC) appears brilliant (10/10) over the southern
limb. Mare Australe appears as a dark (3/10) collar along the southern
border of the SPC. Mare Erythraeum (3-4/10) appears obscured by a very
bright (8/10) haze. An extremely bright (9/10) terminator projection
appears over the Argyre region (haze with possible dust?). Aurorae
Sinus appears dark (3/10) with a dark to dull (3-5/10) Agathodaemon
(Coprates) extending from it's following border (Tithonius Lacus
appears to be obscured by an extremely bright (9/10) haze). Bosporos
Gemmatus appears dark (3/10) extending between Aurorae Sinus and Aonius
Sinus (3/10). Solis Lacus appears dark (3/10) and elongated in a NE-SW
direction and connected to Mare Erythraeum by a shaded (4/10) Nectar.
Two projections are noted over the southern border of Solis Lacus
namely Ambrosia (5/10) followed a thicker Bathys (4/10). Thaumasia
Claritas, Syria, and Sinai appear bright (7/10) surrounding Solis
Lacus. Phasis appears shaded (4/10) projecting from the northern border
of Aonius Sinus. A very bright to extremely bright (8-9/10) appears
between Chryse-Xanthe and Tharsis. The western (following) border of
Mare Acidalium (3/10) and Niliacus (4/10) are visible beneath haze.
Tempe and Arcadia appear bright (7/10). An extremely bright (9/10) haze
appears over the morning (following) and northern limbs.

The best of luck to you and your fellow observers.

Seeing fair (5-6, Pickering) but gusty wind, ESE 4-8 kts. Transparency 5m. No dew. Altitude = 47-48 degrees.

Prominent orographics over Tharsis volcanoes. Arctic cloud. Bright AM limb arc. PM cloud in Ophir.
No violet clearing. Brilliant cloud over NW SPC.
Solis Lacus thin, oriented N-S due to lightening of its western half. Phasis very prominent and extending
NW past Gallineria Silva. Daedalia dark. Note Araxes visible as broad streak joining eastern Sirenum M. to
Phoenicis Lacus.

Hi All
Here are some Mars images from 11 June. Note that the classical streak
called Araxes has become prominent. The western half of Solis Lacus has
become dull.
