( reported by 11 observers)

July 2nd, 2003
Japan observed near Meridiani(0W,-5). dust which was discovered on
July 1st can not be seen. Small dust cloud is recorded next to the
west of Niliacus sinus(30W,+30) by the image of Einaga(Japan). It
is recording the state that Yunoki(Japan) is the same. In the IR
image of Niikawa(Japan), it understands the state well. It well
understands the dust cloud which occurred in the northern part of
Hellas by the image of Frank J Melillo. A correct position is the
image of Ed. Grafton and is well known. There is not a big change
in the size compared with previous day.

The seeing was a little above average at 6/10.
Syrtis Major is clearly seen and Hellas is kind of dull.
But on the north side of Hellas is a little brighter.
The contrast of the features like Mare Tyrrherum
Hesperia and others are not as strong as I expected.
Not sure if this is due to the fine scattered dust
in the Martian atmosphere.

Hi Mars Observers
Here is an image from July 02th 2003 at 09:43 UT taken from Houston, Texas.
Dust activity noted by D. Parker and J. Beish on July 1st seems to be
prominent in the area of Iapygia on the Northern rim of Hellas. The sky was
mostly cloudy with only a few short gaps in the clouds where a few frames
could be captured.

Hi All
Attached are some Mars images from 2 July.
The dust clouds noted yesterday over Iapygia-Ionium have coalesced and expanded.
The cloud has become bright in red light. Hope it stays put!

RED (RG610 Red Filter, 610-1100nm: NO IR Rejection) 0.13-0.19s 2-9 images
GREEN (CFW8C, 531nm central; BWHM 86nm) 0.48s 7 images
BLUE (CFW8C, 450nm central, BWHM 116nm) 1.60s 6 images
Images bias,flat and dark corrected.

Seeing variable (3-5, Pickering). Transparency poor and variable (2-3.5 m) with haze, frequent cloud bands.
Wind gusty, E-SE 5-10 kts. No dew, post rain storm.
Altitude = 51 degrees.

Dust cloud over Iapygia-Ionium has now coalesced and brightened since 1 July. Est. centered at 294 degs W, 25 degs S. Remians very
bright in green light. Now brighter in red light with no IR rejection filter.
Syrtis Minor, Tyrrhenum M. and Crocea still covered with haze. Possibel dust clouds in SE Hellas. Little detail on the floor of Hellas.
Possible dust streaks in extreme eastern Hesperia. Anomalous dark features over this region in blue light.
SPC rifts distinct. Tiny ochre spot noted again on SPC, centered approx. 105 deg W, 82 deg S. NP hood remains thin, AM limb arc thin
and not a bright as on 1 July.

Eric Ng (10" F6 Newtonian homebuilt reflector : ToUcam Pro)
Dear friends
The sky continued clear, the seeing was not good in average but still fortunately
still could captured some steady moment.
Attached mars was taken in this morning with the 10" F6 Newtonian as usual but this
time I used F70 for the image.

The light patch over Nikoleras (see the one by MauriceValimberti) has been captured
on this shot too. I put the RGB and RRGB side by side for your reference.
BTW, this time I applied weaker processing which is quite natural looking.
Please feel free to comment.

Dear friends
I am attaching another 20030702 mars which was taken approximately 40 mins earlier
than the shot previously posted. This one was taken at F42.
