July 18th, 2003
There was not observation from Japan. The white line which comes out
to the image of ErichNg is not cloud and it thinks like the problem
which was caused optically. (by Adachi) Mare Hadriacum (275W,-35)
seems to have become rather light.

A couple of fairly detailed images from this morning (July 18 UT) showing
the vicinity of Solis Lacus and surrounding areas. Of particular interest
again this morning is the very bright scintillating spot on the SPC
perimeter nearing the CM on the 09:43 image; these images present the SPC
overexposed in processing, but this very small and concentrated spot was
well shown on Ed Grafton's image of July 17 on this same meridian (about 130
degrees)

Note also the reddish hue associated with the volcanic peaks in the Tharsis
region; Olympus Mons and others are well shown in both images. As always
these are taken with the ASO Petit Jean telescope, a Meade 16" SCT operating
at f/35 and Toucam with Registax.

Dear all -
Mars was imaged again on July 18th between 9:24 UT and 9:42 UT.
The seeing was a lot better than the night before.
But still, not good enough to capture the details in the SPC region.

This time I did something different. The left image was done with the maximum Entropy Deconvlution and the other one on the right was done with a regular processing like unsharp mask. Both show the same amount of details. But the left image is much more smoother than the grainy right image. Please, can you tell me which one is more appealing? Which one is more better? Which one will clearl y show more details?
Still, Mare Sirerum is dominating on the disk while Solis Lacus near to the evening terminator. The SPC is again washed out due to the seeing condition. Everything looks normal otherwise.

Hi everyone : last night the excellent observing conditions and the nearly
20" apparent diameter allowed me to take my best images of the planet so
far.
No dust is seen, but the SPC is showing much interesting phenomena. The
images show a kind of almost separated segment of the cap, duller, to the
left of the image. And, the very bright pointed part of the cap at CM ~ 10°
is still there since the previous images taken from Europe over the last
week. Could this be the first sights of the "Argenteus Mons" ?
I have also added two color images taken with the color ToUcam, for fun.

Best wishes

Dear friends,
I compared the shots taken at 17:41 and 18:10. I found a yellowish streak over the Mare Tyrrhenum region which was moving northwards within 30 mins. I must say I dont know whether it is real or not. The streak show very distinct in R frame but not in blue. Seeing of 18:10 was slightly worse than 17:41 one. I am attaching the comparision for your comment. May some experts kindly comment on it.
Kind Regards

This will be the last image for a week or so, the winter weather is closing in on Perth again.
Attached image is probably best to date with the 6inch achromat.
The dark areas are red looking as the achromat struggles with the red a little.
However, resolution of the attached image is fairly good for this type of instrument.
