New South Equatorial Disturbance (continued)
|
Hi everyone,
You may find the attached compilation useful: it shows all the good images
of the SED in the last few days. The main focus has drifted up to L1 ~ 117
and there is increasing small-scale disturbance p. it.
Multispectral images so far show:
Methane: Nothing distinctive. (This was also true of the 1999 SED for its
first 6 months; then it became very impressive in methane wavebands.)
I-band (near-IR continuum): It has most contrast in this waveband.
UV: EZ(S) is UV-dull p.the SED, and UV-bright f. it.
Clear and steady skies!

GRS rotation (2004/03/24)
Here is a compilation of images of the GRS, 2-3 rotations apart, on March 18-20.
You can see a dark arc 'orbiting' around the GRS, from the f. side
to the S side to the p. side. Also much movement in the post-GRS rifts in
the SEB; and the STBn and SSTBn jetstreams ( as pointed out by
Hans-Joerg). (This does not include Don Parker's image just received,
coincident with the first one shown, which has even higher resolution.)
I wonder if our friends in Far Eastern longitudes obtained any images
which might extend the series?
Best wishes,
[John H. Rogers: British Astronomical Association.]
