I have attached a set of images taken before dawn on the morning of 28 March 2006. These first images were taken with my 25cm newtonian at f30 and a Lumenera Lu075M camera. Schuler filters were used for all except for the methane band image which uses a Custom Scientific 889nm 18nm FWHM filter. Seeing was good, but Jupiter was past its maximum elevation at only 29 deg above the horizon.
I have another set taken approximately 40 min later at a slightly higher resolution, but have not finished processing. These should be ready tomorrow night or Saturday.
The GRS is visible just as it is rotating out of view. Of particular interest is a white spot close to the CM in the STeB and an arc of bright material extending to the south. There is also a very bright patch at the edge of the NEB just approaching the CM. These white areas are visible in all wavelengths, but especially in the methane band.
I have attached the second sequence of filtered images from the 28th of March, taken approx 40 mins after the first set sent out on the 30th. The GRS has almost disappeared around the limb in this set.
The same equipment was used, except I boosted the EFL to approx. f36 for these images. I still need to bump the image scale a bit more, something to work on the next time I get out.
