曇り空のちょっと晴れ間に,顔を出した木星を狙えました。
シーングが悪くて、中央のリフト?がSEBに食い込んでいるのが
目立ちました。

A good sequence of longwave IR images was obtained this night. A colour image
was also created using R,G and B (which were much less sharp) and giving them
an IR 807nm luminance.

Of particular interest is the chain of small dark spots. The SEB is currently in
revival phase and is divided here into two parts N and S,separated by light
material. These spots are on the S component of the SEB and are approaching
(retrograding) towards the STr disturbance, seen faintly here as the "bridge"
just following them. When they meet the STrD they may be flipped back in its
anticyclonic circulation to start prograding in the STB.

There is also a bridge between the two components of the SEB at about I=355. I
don't know if this has a name. The appearance of far southern latitudes is
different here to anything I have seen recently. There seems to be a bright SS
temperate zone in certain longitudes,S of a dark, thick SSTB. I don't know if
this is the correct interpretation of what I am seeing here in the IR images.
Overall, the globe is very remarkable at the moment, even as seen from 51 deg. N.

Since there was a nice configuration of moons on this night,I also took two
shorter focal length images, one to expose for the globe, and one to expose for
the 3 closest moons, which are,L to R,Callisto,Europa and Io. These images
were superposed to give the result here. (Chris Newsome,on the current BAA
"Picture of the Week",has got Ganymede in as well in an image taken at about
the same time.)

One thing this exercise shows is that, even with the low altitude, you do still
need the bigger image scale to image all that is resolvable on Jupiter's globe.
