Here is Jupiter on 2010/08/31-2010/09/01.

The transparency was average.
The seeing was mediocre.

T = +10°C

Another set of images from home as opposition month begins. The NEB oval merger is still underway by the looks of things.
The dark spot in the central SEB is looking quite prominent. Now if only a brilliant white spot would appear within it

Io in transit. Im pretty pleased with this result for 32o elevation.

Here is an image of Jupiter from this morning in good seeing, but somewhat jetstream affected. The GRS is well placed in the centre of the disc, with Oval BA sliding past underneath. It's really fascinating to see the high level clouds deflecting around the GRS

Christopher Go (Celestron C11)
It was mostly cloudy today. Seeing was okay but transparency was horrible! I had to image Jupiter through clouds. This resulted in a lower frame rate.
The GRS and Oval BA can be seeing very close to each other. Oval BA is very dark red now.
The SEB is quiet and very light. The NEB is still very dark and busy.

Not quite up to the standard of some of the other recent offerings but my first of the season and a bit lower in the sky (30°). Io in transit and as a first for me,some hints of detail in Io itself.

Here is my Jupiter observation which I made on 1st-2nd September,2010.
Although there was an annoying layer of high cloud, the seeing was rather good.
The image was sufficiently bright to allow work with powers 250x or so. Io is
transiting the disk and it's light orange colour is quite unmistakable- even
when the satellite is observed against the bright SEBz.

The STB seemed to be incomplete and at times veer off into the STZ there may
have been some interaction with the SSTB and STB. Two white ovals also present
in SSTZ,

SEB double tonight, and perhaps more prominent than recently,SEB(s) distinctly
yellowish,SEB(n) more greyish in colour.
A number of prominent festoons were observed in the EZ. Some interesting dark
sections present either on the northern edge of the NTB or in the NNTB; it was
hard to be certain.

John: I have been making intensity estimates and have quite a number of them- do
you want me to put them onto a spreadsheet and email to you at the end of the
apparition?
