Mars Observation (07/04/2010) Good planetary observing conditions again, and Mars was high in the sky. Alas, the disk size is now rather small, but with a power of 312x,I was able to discern a number of fine features. I hope to continue observing Mars until it reaches 6" in early June of this year.
The most interesting features tonight were the white clouds. Chryse was on the Proc. limb and appeared to be 'ablaze" with white light. This bright cloud elongated and became part of the equatorial cloud. There were also bright clouds over the Tharsis region, perhaps 3 large distinct ones, although the southern most appeared to be connected to the equatorial cloud band. NPC smaller but bright,Lowell band rather thin.
Acidalium is present in the north, and some nice details present in Solis Lacus, although nothing like the fine detail that was on show earlier in the year.
