Mars was rather low in the murk at dawn,but relatively bright in the scope.
A full colour run was looking unrealistic (the blue channel was a meaningless blob) so just used the IR filter and got the electronic crayons out to give it a hint of colour.

Well,Here's the first Mars observation of the new 2011-12 apparition.  I'm afraid the drawing doesn't show a great deal as the disk size is only some 4.7" across.  Nevertheless,the Syrtis Major was present on the fol. limb and what I took to possible be clouds may have been present in the Electris and Eridania region.  Elysium presented itself as a light region near the disk centre.
So begins the new apparition- I wonder what lies in store for us. I for one am delighted to have Mars back in the sky...
