We had a brief clearing here, and I decided to venture out and observe Jupiter.
It was immediately obvious that there was a dark speck in the STB and at first I thought it was a satellite shadow.
A quick check of WINJUPOS revealed it to be Callisto in tgransit!
I have been waiting for a Callisto transit for sometime, and it was nice to catch it albeit by chance!
Against the disk of Jupiter it is rather dark and I would assign it a BAA scale of 8.5.
I also examined with a number of filters:
W#25A: Harder to see in this filter and it seemed a little brighter, perhaps around 8.0 W#80A: Much easier to see in this filter. The intensity is probably the same as IL W#47: Jupiter rather faint in this filter although the two main EBs can be seen. Callisto was not seen however. W#58: In the green filter Calisto seemed to be lighter. I would assign it a value of around 7.5.
In this filter it appeared to be a dark greyish colour. By 1946 the wind was rather strong and thick clouds arrived once more. A short but rewarding observation

At long last,we had clear skies again in Belgium with decent seeing conditions as well.
It was a nice opportunity because Callisto passed Jupiter and the GRS was also visible at the same time.

Here's an RGB result. I made Callisto a little bit brighter because it is a very dark moon

Here is an image from Feb 22nd. Io alongside the planet with Callisto in transit (the moon itself not its shadow.)
The NNTZ LRS looks rather like a jovian red eye in this shot. Average seeing and transparency. [Damian Peach: Loudwater,Buckinghamshire,United Kingdom]
