Finally we had some clear skies (for at least half an hour!) in Leicester and I was able to make a start on the new Jupiter apparition.
Great heavens the end of 2015 was terrible: we had no clear skies since the start of October!
It has been three months since I have been able to get out and do something.
I had hoped to view comet Catalina and do some variable stars,alas it wasn't to be as we had intermittent showers and I gave up at 0230!
Seeing started off tolerable at AIII,but was decidedly variable at times!
Anyway,attached is my rendering of Jupiter,a couple of points of note:
- SEB quite broad and seemed to contain a number of lighter regions and dark sections
- EZ contained a few bluish coloured Festoons.
- NEB a little broader than I remember it from last time. It was also quite active with a long lightly diagonal structure extending through a good section of the belt. A thin lighter zone could also be made out.
- NTB somewhat vague,and it was hard to make out any definite structure north of the NTB.

Overslept this morning. Jupiter was way past the meridian. Seeing was unstable because of clouds.
Note the three large white ovals on the NTZ close to the CM. The wake of the left most spot seem to be the one creating the reddish wake on the NTZ.
The outbreak on the NEB is creating complex rifts. The SEB has a light color compared to the NEB. Note the dark oval on the SEBs.

Imaged Jupiter this morning,Jan 15th,in rather ordinary seeing,have quite reasonable 685nm IR which generally does still work well in marginal conditions.
This IR data resolves some nice detail. The B channels in particular let down my RGB data.
