Forecast cloud did not materialise yesterday afternoon, giving me an unexpected imaging session.
My primary objective was to try and catch the upcoming NASA Juno PJ23 flyby track in bright sky conditions.
However, I soon noticed that there was one of the moons (quickly identified as Callisto) approaching the North polar limb of Jupiter.
I continued to capture data as it approached and as the sky darkened and the onscreen contrast improved,
I realised that there were two more moons in transit (Europa traversing the NTemp region and Io in front of the NEB).
Once I had seen the moons, I realised that their shadows would be following, and true to form, as I sat watching, they came into view.
What was rather special, however, was that I was able to confirm that Callisto was undergoing a grazing transit of the North pole- I don't know how common that is.
All I can say is that my "serious planetary imager" hat came off pretty quickly and
I sat there in awestruck wonder watching the show that Jupiter and its moons were putting on.
I continued capturing data, 197GB in total, with the session lasting just under 2 hrs.
Pity that conditions were not a bit better, but an evening where is was reminded of why I love this hobby so much.

乱高下はあるものの、この時期としては少し良い気流状態でした。
