Comment by Makoto Adachi
Mr. Clyde Foster's image shows dust covered the eastern part of Mount Mitchell. Probably because the airflow sublimated
from the rear part of the SPC cracked up the sand, blowing out in the mid-latitude direction. If you look closely at the image,
it is recorded. Dusty is all around the SPC,but it can be seen that it spouts from this area and Mare Sirenum (140W to 170W,
-30) and spreads all around by the air flow around the SPC.
Mr. Mike Hood's image often shows the edge of the SPC. The dark fringe of the SPC in the center left is invisible, and it is thought
that the balloon from the SPC is recorded in this part. In the image of Mr. Inoue, the bright part on the north side of Mare Sirenum
(140W to 170W,-30) is recorded, but it is an edge dust storm created by the influence of the SPC blowing seen on the previous day.
In the image of Mr. Ota,the dusty area can be seen as if it surrounds the SPC. Observations from Japan have been carried
out so that the SPC does not fly white, which is very helpful.

Image set from this morning with Syrtis Major approaching the terminator at left,
S Sabeaus and S Meridiani extending across the centre towards the right and Hellas at upper left.
I believe it is the Mitchell Mons that can be seen as separated from the main polar cap.
The condition of Deltonon S,situated between Syrtis Major and S Sabeaus, was recently noted by Damian Peach.
Although there is a general sense of dustiness, the IR shows some detail in the albedo features.

Conditions were not good- drifting cloud was a continual nuisance and the seeing, initially at AII quickly dropped to AIV.
Still,a number of interesting points were visible:
- The south polar cap is still large and bright,in the moments of good seeing I could see some darkish material in the cap. The surrounding Lowell band was probably the darkest feature on the disk, and is now rather irregular rather than a uniform band.
- The Hellas basin was seen- due to the poor conditions it is hard to be sure but it seems as though there was dusk/cloud activity in the basin (although it didn't appear to be bright)- this probably extended into Noachis but it is hard to be sure.
- Hellespontus and Pandorae Fretum visible but rather weak.
- The Syrtis Major was rather muted,it's prec. side seemed to be darker- overall one is left with the impression that there is still a lot of dust in the Martian atmosphere and this is making the albedo features appear much less striking.
I was hoping to make a second drawing using my 12" Newtonian, but by 0243UT the clouds obscured Mars and in any case the sky was now getting rather light.

I used Registax 5 and Photoshop CS2 for processing.

Good seeing for these images but variable transparency.

Clouds everywhere, but was able to get in a first light image finally this season.
Martian atmosphere seemed hazy but most features were still readily observable in the telescope.

When observed with blue light (B47),there was no particularly clear part,
and the whole looked dim. I thought the veil of dust had faded,
but it didn't look so clear on the B47. It seemed that Solis's position was
pale and cloudy, and it was very hard to see.
