Niall MacNeill
After nearly 2 months I was finally able to get back to planetary imaging.
This is due to a combination of bad weather,a failure of the drive mechanism of the dome on the observatory
but most particularly delays to a project to upgrade my gear to allow me to much more easily swap from planetary to deep sky and back again.
These were delays after I had already taken down my previous rig. Basically,
I recommissioned my C11 for deep sky and mounted it side by side with the C14
which I'll dedicate to imaging the planets, the Moon and comets as well as visual observing.
I do have a nice deep sky option for the Hyperstar on the C14,but that won't be the prime mode of operation.
I had cleaned the mirror and corrector plate on the C14 so I knew it would need recollimation.
I could see the star I was using for the collimation process,
was occasionally being washed out by intermittent and severe atmospheric turbulence.
The same thing applied to Jupiter when I finally got there, after a cloud bank intervened for a couple of hours.
When the sky cleared the GRS,Io and its shadow were in transit.
I rated the seeing at 5/10,but it was classically decent and then total rubbish.
As others have said,it is amazing what the technology can deliver after you've seen the planet dancing around on the monitor.
Nonetheless you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear and the difference between my images
and Michael Wong's superb images from above average seeing conditions is very evident.

Numerous features are seen, but I will only mention a less obvious one with the CH4 890nm filter.
The p border of the NPH is rather sharp and is seen rotating with time.
Thr STB also has a dark spot that becomes visible in the two last images,
but I think it is known for some time (as well as its broadband IR and visible counterparts).
The low res UV images (the IMX464 is not particularly well suited for UV) show a thin and dark equatorial line (mid EZ).

Still have two other Jupiter sessions to process..
