We had a very clear sky last night, and I observed from dusk until dawn! Seeing was very good in the early morning andI managed to make a start on Mars. The planet is behind the roof of the house from the position of the 12" Newtonian, but it is well clear from the site of the 8" Newtonian. Seeing was good for most of the observation and I employed a power of x200:
-South Polar Cap can be seen although it is getting small, some hints of a Lowell band present.
-Mare Chronium can be seen to the north of the cap,and north of this the bright deserts of Electris and Eridania can be seen, although they weren't overly bright suggesting no cloud activity in these regions.
-The main feature on the disk was the Mare Cimmerium- Cimmeria I. seemed to be darker.
-Hesperia not far from the following limb, but this did not seem to be particularly bright.
-To the north, both Trivium Charontis and Cerberus could be seen has darker patches- they seemed quite well defined, although Elysium was not particularly bright.
-Eunostas was also present and part of the following limb were bright.
