薄雲を通しての撮影だったが、シーイングはまずまずだった

I have just had my longest ever Mars observing session starting at 2103UT on 7th December and continuing until 0558UT this morning on 8th December and culminating in the occultation of Mars by the Moon. During this time I managed to obtain six disk drawings. Seeing was good throughout most of the night, and I used power of x320 and x300. It was a very cold night with a temperature of -4.2° by morning and ice covering everything. I will send details of the occultation separately. Some points from tonight's observations:
・At the start,Solis Lacus was on the the preceding limb- Foelix seemed to be quite bright and there were a number of markings south of Solis LAcus
・Agathodaemons could be seen and bellow Ophir and Candor where bright. Ganges quite dusky. Bright clouds on the prec limb?
・Mare Sirenum is well placed and quite dark in places- the feature is not uniform and composed of many subtle light and darker patches.
・I had the impression of bright clouds over Electris some of these contained a bluish tint.
・Later Phaethontis, electris and Eridania seemed bright, some quite complex detail in the region joining Mare Sirenum to Mare Cimmerium which becomes well placed by drawing 3.
・Brighter regions immediately north of Cimmerium- Sinus Gomer seen.
・Trivium Chartontis quite distinctive although not particularly dark. Elysium seemed to be brighter later on by the time it became well placed.
・Some interesting vague markings and streaks in Amazonis and Arcadia. Olympus Mons could be seen with subtle darker shadings surrounding it.
・By the time of drawing 6,Hellas and Syrtis Major were starting to appear on the morning limb- I had the impression of clouds here.
・The northern Polar Hood seems smaller at these longitudes but still a brilliant white.
The observation finished with the occultation of Mars which I will report on shortly. Finially de-iced everything and packed up for 0614UT.

ここ数日の強風がおさまり、ようやく撮影できました。

大気が安定していたので,シーイングは比較的良好であった。地表面の模様や北極付近の雲が明瞭である。
Seeing was relatively good because the atmosphere was stable. The ground surface pattern and clouds near the North Pole are clear.

I have to admit exhaustion was setting in as Mars eventually climbed above the trees and it was a bit of a rushed session.
The IR 685 shows a bit more surface detail, with Solis Lacus at upper left and Olympus Mons at lower right.

I managed to take this Mars image of opposition in spite of the full Moon, clouds and spotty fog.
[Mike Hood : Kathleen Georgia,U.S.A.]
I had fair seeing for these IR and RGB captures on Mars on the day of opposition.
Sinus Meridiani is at the Central Meridian. Sinus Sabaeus is on its p side with the Schiaparelli crater visible between. Syrtis Major is on the p limb having almost rotated out of view,Arabia Terra is the vast area of light coloured terrain to the north, whilst Noachis Terra is the large albedo area to the south, which seems to be somewhat dust encumbered..
The north polar region has blue-white clouds but it seems to me that the north polar cap can just be seen through the clouds.
There are also blue coloured clouds on the f limb to the south.
As I mentioned I made a long run on the date of the Mars opposition and published an image from the best of the data. This animation from 11-47 to 14-06 shows the rotation of the planet over approximately 2hrs 25 mins under variable seeing conditions. Diffuse blue cloud can be seen around the southern temperate regions,as well as the usual thicker cloud around the north polar region.
[Niall MacNeill : Wattle Flat,NSW,Australia]
After two weeks of dull grey sky this evening the moon showed up through thinning clouds. I gave Mars a chance, also there were only few small cloud gaps. I was rewarded with good seeing (although bad transparency) and could aquire two RGB-series. Results were stunning good.
Images can also be viewed stereo!
