I attended the Hampstead Observatory summer solstice event on Saturday 21st June and was able to use the splendid 150mm OG Cooke Refractor to make an observatoion of Venus which is attached. Although seeing was somewhat poor, the telescope performed very well and there were a number of things of note:
Illuminated Disk: There seemed to be a vague streading extending diaongally across the disk. This was more evident in the W82A light blue filter. The light blue filter also seemed to show a brighter patch to the north.
Bright Limb Band: Visible and complete
Terminator: Geometrically regular
Cusp Caps: Both present but the nrothern cusp cap seemed to be larger and brighter than the southern cusp cap.
Cusp Collars: Both seem to be rpesent but the southerrn one was quite difficult to make out, the one in the north was a little easier.
My thanks to Kevin McNulty and Andrew Rennie who hosted the event at the observatory and helped me make these observations.
