Dear all again-
This is a beauty!!
Venus was imaged again in UV light on June 21 at 23:05 thru 23:20 UT.
The seeing was a perfect 10! According to the weather forecast during the day, there is a big high pressure system over the New York area.
I predicted that the seeing will be perfect for Venus imaging.
Sure enough, I was right on the ball!
No, this is not Mars! Venus is showing a dark band again in the southern hemisphere but it is much broader.
The south polar region is quite bright. (On the June 20th image, the south polar region was bright also.) Then there is another dark band much further north and the northern polar region is dull.
It seems that it is rotating from the terminator to the limb.
Very impressive images!
Hopefully, some of you have observed Venus on June 21st.
The dark band should show enough contrast in the blue region.
Visually, I observed it with a Wr. #47 violet filter under a high power at 307 power.
It was quite dim and I cannot make out anything.
The larger telescopes would be more appropriate for this.
I expect to make more images on Saturday.
But, it will be more haze and humidty in the air.
Lets see what happen!
Dear all Venus observers-
I thought you may like to see this.
In fact, we may need more simultaneous observations in the near future. This is a perfect example between visually and imaging at the same time.
As of now in UV light, Venus displays some unusual markings especially in the southern hemisphere.
More later...
Regards,
Frank J Melillo
