Well,here's my first observation of Uranus for the apparition of 2011/12. I don't mind admitting that it took nearly 20 minutes to find the planet,shining softly as it was with it's greenish hues amongst the stars of Pisces. We had some moments of good seeing last night and with powers of x312 & x400 I was able to work with the small disk size of just 3.6".
I think there might have been a brighter EZ,and perhaps the northern end of the disk was darker than the south,but I am not at all certain of this; we shall need to see results from other observers. Certainly I am looking forward to using the University of Leicester's 20" DK on the planet! Uranus is a difficult object to observe,at times you can feel your eyes sliding all over the surface looking for anchorage.
