We had a reasonably good night here on 17th - 18th October with seeing around AII- AIII for much of the night. I obtained three drawings of Mars and at x300 there was a good amount of fine detail:
・The western end of the Mare Cimmerium can be seen in drawing 1. This seems to be unaffected by any dust. Sinus Gomer was visible and Hesperia seemed to be lighter. Eridania looks like it is largely free of dust.
・Mare Tyrrhenum was rather dark. Amazonia quite light, and the Mare Iacum was seen.
・The dust in Hellas seems to be settling although there was still a light orange colour hinting at its present. In drawing 3 it seemed that there were bright clouds in the S-f region. Helas seems to contain some details- perhaps Peneus and Zea L?
・Syrtis Major a prominent feature but it didn't seem to me to be as dark and as well defined as in the previous apparition. There may have been a bright cloud in Libya. Shadings seen the deserts of Aeria and Arabia.
・By the time of drawing 3,Sinus Sabeus was well on the disk. The feature was rather dark- Deucalionis Regio now seems a little brighter. Hellespontus also present- both this and the Pandorae Fretum were rather dark.
・There seemed to be a bright cloud extending from the morning limb into Noachis.
・Northern Polar Hood very bright and the bluish tint was seen once more.
