Frequent passing cloud was a nuisance but seeing was fair for a while as the sun was low in the sky.
Illuminated Disk: Some markings seen- these look like the ends of the usual bands seen when the phase is larger.
Bright Limb Band: Visible and complete
Terminator: Geometrically regular
Cusp Caps: Interestingly, the southern cusp cap seemed to be duller than the northern cusp cap. The effect was slightly more prominent in the W15 yellow filter.
Cusp Collars: Perhaps the edges of the collars are becoming visible?
By 0958UT the seeing started to fall off as the sun was higher in the sky and so Venus observations were concluded.

I had a period of good transparency and average seeing on Sept 17,and obtained two independent 20min SERs. A completely different gain setting was used to avoid oversaturation of the dayside (the 10-150 gain setting previously used was not adequate anymore). Specifically (for my Neptune-C II camera,a 14" SCT working at f/5,and the Pixelteq 1010nm/38nm filter, stacked with a Baader Sloan Y' filter),both SERs were captured at 100ms exposure but with gain set to ZERO. I used my normal processing.
The attached image shows the individual processing of the two SERs and,at the right, the result of stacking them. The brighter linear feature is arrowed, and a winjupos simulation map is also included. A gif animation from both SErs and stack is attached.
I really hope that better seeing conditions will be available in a 4-day period (i.e. on Sept 21) to evaluate a possible feature return. Can this be a NS view of the Cloud Discontinuity?
