Hi all, here's a thermal image of Venus taken this morning using Phils 508mm F/4 newt and a 1000-1020nm bandpass filter. We're using an iDS U3-38C0XCP-NO (imx662 mono) camera with the sensor cover glass removed to prevent internal reflections and increase contrast. 5 x 15m recordings in in good seeing were captured and processed using AS!4, The Gimp and Registax. I've also attached an animation comparing the thermal image with a reference topographic map. Some surface features can be clearly seen in common with the topo map, in particular Aphrodite on the right hand limb as well as other smaller features, however there is also a lot of atmospheric activity that is obscuring many other features in this band. A streamer of hot gas is visible in the far north.
