Hi all,
Attached is the update of Saturn's major cloud features tracked at latitudes -42 deg and
-29 deg from the IOPW and ALPO-Japan imaging archives including the HST observations on
25 August and 5 December 2003.
Note that some spots are long-lived (two at -29 deg and a feature W1 at -42 deg).






Attached are also three images obtained with the HST on 5 December (fromtop to bottom at
wavelengths: 439 nm, 675 nm, and 890 nm -methane band-).
The bright spot at -42 deg is W1 (the long-lived one) and shows a "doublespot" structure.
The other -42 bright spot was transient (just 10 days)and was not captured by the HST.
The dark spot in the 675 nm image at -75deg was probably observed on August, and could be
detected under very goodseen with a red filter with 30 - 40 cm telescopes. The activity
at -29 degis prominent but its aspect depend on the filter (as most Saturn
features).

Next HST series will be taken from 31 December to 4 January. We urge all
the IOPW and ALPO Japan team observers to make an effort around these
days, since this will be the first series in 2003 to make features
tracking in HST images.

緯度 -42゜スポット、-29 deg で追跡された土星の主な雲構造の最新情報です。
やや長命のスポットがあることに注目している。
( -29゜の 2 つ、及び、-42 deg の W1ポイント )







次の画像は12/05 HSTの３画像(波長 : 439 nm 675 nm 890 nm のメタンバンド)
-42 ゜の明るいスポットは、 W1 ( 長命のもの ) であり、そして、「二重のスポット」構造であることを示す。
もう一方の -42 の明るいスポットは、一時的であった ( ほんの 10 日 ) 、そのため、 HST では捉えられなかった。
-75゜の 675 nm イメージにある暗いスポットは、8 月に観察され、
おそらく非常に良いシーイングで、口径30〜40cmの望遠鏡の赤フィルタ画像で検出できると思われる。
-29゜の活動は活発であるが、撮影する波長により写り方が異なる。 (土星の模様の特徴 ) 。


次の HST 撮影は、 12 月 31 日から 1 月 4 日の予定です。(衝前後の頃)
HST 観測において特徴模様の地上との同時観測を行うのは、これが 2003 年に最初の試みとなるので、
我々は、全ての IOPW 、そして、 ALPO 日本チーム観察者にさらに熱心に撮影されることを望みます。
