Storms increasing in Jupiter's equatorial region by John H. Rogers |
Dramatic scenes in Jupiter's EZ, 2006 August 4 Hello all, Just in case we thought nothing more would happen this apparition, may I share with you the attached images that observers have sent from Aug.4. Fabio Carvalho's images confirm the 'stormy' appearance of the EZ(S) that has recently developed from L1 ~ 240-300. The feature at L1 ~ 300 (developed from the brown veil that was at L1 = 282 on July 1) looks the same as the SED (which is at L1 = 15-30, pointed out by T. Ikemura on Aug.3). Is it a second SED with a stormy sector developing p. it? Images of L1 ~ 240-300 will be very important to track what is happening. Stefan Buda's image shows a really bizarre NEBs disturbance, at L1 ~ 145, passing the GRS. It contains a brilliant white streak, a displaced very dark projection, and a red patch f. it. (This is also the best recent image of oval BA as it ends its passage past the GRS.) Any more images of these features will be very worthwhile! Best wishes, John ______________________________________ John H. Rogers, Ph.D. Jupiter Section Director, [British Astronomical Association.]
