Here is an image of Saturn from a couple of hours ago. We've been getting very thick fogs rolling in around midnight so Jupiter is out of reach at the moment but at least I can get some images of Saturn just after sunset. I've attempted to balance the colours a little better to match approximately how Saturn looks in the eyepiece view.
This image is the first taken with my new scope, the primary is my spare (a 14.5" Royce conical that's been sitting here in a box for the last 2 years) as an interim mirror until my 16" mirror is finished. The Royce mirror gives me about 20% more light than the 13.1" conical, but the real payoff will be the 16" at 50% more light and greater resolving power too of course
The 16" mirror is still several weeks away at least, so for the next little while I'll be using this Royce 14.5.
Here are two frames (red channel) taken about 20 minutes apart showing the motion of the prominent storm on Saturn.
