Experimenting with improved processing techniques for groundbased spacecraft imagary. Surprised that there seems to be always improvement, so never think you are already there. The Spaceshuttle Discovery with NASA logo on the wing and the edge of the Payload Bay Door in true color, photographed with the 10inch Newtonian, tracked as always by hand, an image originally taken 2011.
Final test for improved processing technique I worked on last weeks. Once again applied to one of my Spaceshutte Discovery images from 2011. Great improvement, a lot of detail is seen, note that we see the visible (left) Payload Bay Door in oblique light, so the door is almost dark but the elements inside it are much better visible as they provide shade. Also good detail now in the payload: the MPLM module. If know were to look you can see the robotic arm lined up with the Payload door inside it as a white stripe.

I would love to write anything for Sky&Telescope or so about these techniques and imaging with easy methods (without expensive tracking systems) if the editors (swalker & co) have any interest?
