Saturn Observation 19-20/04/11 (with Hugh Sasse)

Greetings all,here are two drawings of Saturn I made on 19-20 April 2011.  Most
infuriatingly,the seeing was never better than average,and as High and myself
experimented with various powers,it was determined that  x227 and x283 were
best for steady visual work.  My impressions of the disk and rings were as
follows:

Globe: Spr dark and dusky,greyish blue in colour.  A SSTB was suspected
fleetingly.  The STZ and STropZ were rather bright and a light yellowish colour,
while the STB and SEB(s) were probably the darkest features in the southern
hemisphere; the SEB(s) being the braodest and darkest of the two. SEBz is
presumably the light coloured zone visible between the ansae and SEB(s).  EZ(n)
interesting,the region immediately beneath the rings was a darker yelllow-rose
colour and an EB seemed to be present here; the EZ bellow this was a lighter
yellow.  NEB was a double feature,but NEB(n) was clearly the darker and best
defined of the two.  Interestingly,in the moments of better seeing the NEB(n)
seemed to have a very fragmented nature appearing as it did to be composed of
alternating lighter and darker sections- NEB(s) much more uniform,seeing
artifact?
NTB and NNTB both seen and the NTropZ and NTZ seemed to contain a greenish
tint.  NPR grey.  Two white oval shaped regions were present- by the time of
drawing 2 (attached) they were better placed for observation.

Rings: The outer 1/3 of A-Ring was a light brown colour,while the inner 2/3
appeared to be grey.  Cassini Division well seen thought not completely black,
more a dark grey (due to the seeing conditions and the reduced tilt of Saturn).
B1-Ring a very light yellow,B2-Ring appeared to be a somewhat darker yellow
with a grayish tint- very hard to describe the colour of the B2-Ring.  B3-Ring
also observed and appeared to be a darker greyish yellow.  C-Ring was rather
uniform tonight,a very dark grey and best seen near the ansae centre.  By the
time of drawing 2,I started too suspect the presence of spokes in the B1-Ring,
one on the proc. side one on the fol side.  It also seemed that the edge of the
B2-Ring was somewhat darker on the proc. ansae than on the foll. side.

One other thing of note,Titan seemed to be intensley orange tonight; far
stronger than I have ever observed before.  Hugh Sasse (who is partially
sighted) also made a disk drawing and assisted greatly in the collection of disk
drawings,intensity estimates and provided quality cakes and tea!

By 0015UT,the image definition was incredibly poor and showed no sign of
improvements.  By 0017UT,the clouds saw us and promptly hid Saturn.  We retired
at 0020UT mildly annoyed.

Tuesday night brought some periods of extremely stable conditions to my
location on the UK’s south coast. I had a splendid view visually at 400x
and could see the turbulent stormy region of the NTrZ clearly. A small
bright spot is apparent in the stormy region and also some faint spoke
features were recorded.

unfortunately  I had some problems with my health and my mount, but now
everything is fine and I am back in planet imaging. :-))

Here my Saturn images from 19th April 2011 with 8" Newton from my
balcony in Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Other images from earlier observations until now will follow as soon as
I can proceed them...
