A pretty good view but seeing too poor from 21:35 UT. The shadow of Tethys was
surprisingly well seen; but again Tethys itself eluded me - perhaps very
vaguely glimpsed after looking at WinJupos.......!!

Attached is a Saturn observation I made (with Dr. Hugh Sasse from De Montford University) on 18th May 2011. Seeing was alas only average. That evening,when we arrived at the Observatory,Tethys had finished transiting disk but Mimas and it's shadow were still in transit. I believed I did glimpse Mimas in transit when the seeing stabilized,but the required seeing was only fleeting and so for this reason,I have not recorded my impressions of Mimas in transit,as it was only visible for a few moments. Having spoken to Martin Mobberley yesterday I feel reasonably confident that we did observe Mimas (and it seems that other veteran BAA observers have seen such events in the past with much smaller equipment...again thanks to Martin for sending me some interesting information on the subject.) Interestingly I could not see Tethys shadow (nor Mimas but I was expecting too!). Our overall impressions were as follows:
(a): Saturn.
SPR dark and dusky,I suspected two belts in the south,one was definitely the SEB. The ShRG is quite large now and provides a lvoely contrast against the EZ(s). Northern hemisphere was interesting- even though the centre of the main storm was off disk,it is apparent that the NTropZ and NTZ are still being effected. The NEB was double and I had the impression of a veil connecting the NEB(s) with NEB(n). There also seemed to be dark sections within the NEB(n). Also present were some light grayish-brown extenstions from NEB(n) down through the NTropZ into the NTB. NTZ was rather bright,but interestingly the greenish colour that I and other observers have been seeing seemed to be almost absent. A NPC was also present.
Filters: W80A all of the major zones (STZ,STropZ,EZ,NTropZ and NTZ) really stood out well in this filter. The B1-Ring was also very bright in this filter. It appeared that there were some brighter (oval shaped?) region in the NTropZ and NTZ.
In the W11,the belts seem to come out well,The A-Ring seemed light and the C-Ring may have been easier to see in this light
